Early Childhood Educator Series
In 2017 we launched a series of educator workshops designed for teachers of children 0-5 in formal and informal settings. The idea was to offer workshops on topics of interest and significance that may not be widely available through common professional development channels—including sessions on Race, gender, consent, ableism, and more.
Past topics include:
Talking About Race in the Early Childhood Classroom (Trainer: Center for Racial Justice in Education with Dr. Megan Madison, Kate Engle)
Gender, Sexuality, and the Family Workshop Series (Trainer: NY Early Childhood Professional Development Institute, with Dr. Megan Madison, Kate Engle, Laleña Garcia, Milo Giovanello)
Creating Diverse Classroom Book Collections (Trainers: Rachel Payne, BPL Staff, Dr. Megan Madison)
Hands-On Art for Young Children (Trainer: Children’s Museum of the Arts)
Project-Based Learning for Young Children (Trainer: Materials for the Arts)
Early Literacy and the Science of Reading (Trainer: Melanie Okadigwe)
Indigenizing Early Childhood Arts Education (Trainer: Emi Aguilar)
ABC’s of Racism (Trainer: Little Uprisings)
In 2024, we welcomed the first cohort into our new series of workshops called “Practicing in Community” developed in partnership with Team Gender Anarchy and led by Laleña Garcia and Milo Giovanello.
